Purdue K Dougherty to transfer to Louisville

WEST LAFAYETTE (AP) — Purdue kicker Tim Dougherty will leave Purdue and transfer to Louisville, Purdue’s sports information office said on Friday.

Dougherty was a second-team all-state kicker at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Ky., but the redshirt freshman never played for Purdue. He was expected to compete with incumbent Chris Summers for the starting job and is listed as the second-string kicker on the most recent depth chart. Summers made just eight of 20 field goals last season.

River Bluff Run 5K slated for Oct. 13

The 2007 McDonald’s 5K River Bluff Run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the River Bluff Trail in Logansport. The event will be held rain or shine.

Sponsored by McDonald’s East and West in Logansport, the run/walk will support the Memorial Hospital Foundation and promote healthy, balanced lifestyles.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by the start of the 5K run at 9 a.m. and the 2.6-mile walk at 10 a.m. Runner awards will be presented at 9:45 a.m. and walker awards will be distributed at 11 a.m.

Applications are available at Logansport McDonald’s, the Cass County Family Y, Memorial Hospital Foundation, Curves and Ultimate Fitness and on Memorial Hospital’s Web site at www.logansportmemorial.org.

Sizzling Century Bike Tour set for Aug. 19

KOKOMO — The 21st annual Sizzling Century Bike Tour will be held Sunday, Aug. 19, at the UAW Union Hall 292, 1201 W. Alto Rd., Kokomo. Registration will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. with route options of 34, 62 and 100 miles.

The scenic course will take cyclists through the Wildcat and Deer Creek Valleys. Participants will have multiple rest stops, live musical entertainment and tours of Adams Mill. There will also be a post-ride barbecue dinner.

CCS swim team holding stroke clinic

The Cass County Seals Swim Team is holding open registration for a stroke clinic at Logansport High School beginning Monday, Aug. 27. The purpose of the clinic is to improve and refine the four basic swim strokes, including freestyle, back, breast and butterfly, as well as to begin conditioning for the upcoming winter season.

The dates of the clinic are Aug. 27-30 and Sept. 4-7. Novice or beginning swimmers will swim from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and age group or experienced swimmers will swim from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Swimmers must be at least 6 years old and able to swim a minimum of 25 yards without assistance.

YMCA offering kids tumbling classes

The Cass County Family YMCA is offering “Totally Tumbling,” a five-week tumbling class for children ages 4 to 8 years old. The course meets at 1 p.m. on Sundays from Aug. 26 to Sept. 23. Each 45-minute class will work on flexibility, strength, tumbling and balance and will be led by Brittany Bullard.
