The Logansport freshmen boys basketball team rounded out a strong season with a 37-35 victory over North Miami on Wednesday. With the narrow win, the Berries finished their season at 12-7.
Joel Gotshall led the Berries with 16 points while Jordan Champion followed with 11. Also for Logansport, Andrew Boonstra had six points while Broc Conrad added four.
The B team also pulled out a victory over the Warriors, 20-10. Boonstra led the squad with six points while Derrick Lee and Jacob Fisher each had four.
West Central 72, Kouts 59
Kyle Evans led three Trojan players in double figures as West Central cruised to the victory Tuesday night.
The win put West Central at 11-7 while Kouts dropped to 0-16.
The Trojans held a narrow 18-17 lead after one but opened it to 39-31 at half and just kept building from there.
Evans hit five field goals, including three triples, for his tally. Also for West Central, Ryan Howat also had 12 points while Grant Davis finished with 11.
Bryon Geyer and Jacob Fritz led the Trojans’ rebounding effort with five boards apiece. West Central beat Kouts on the glass 24-22.
Kouts won the JV game 48-40.
West Central will host Knox on Friday.
Rochester 68, Triton 52
Luke Smith scored 22 points to lead the Zebras in Tuesday’s win.
Smith finished with six field goals, including a pair of three-pointers, and went 8-of-11 from the free-throw line for his tally.
Also for Rochester, which improved to 13-4 with the win, Cory Overmyer and Scott Thomas each added 10 points while Kory Barnett had nine.
The Zebras powered ahead to a 22-13 lead after the first quarter then improved it to 44-29 at halftime.
Rochester will play at Peru on Friday.
Logansport 105.575, Marion 85.85
On a night when several athletes were limited or didn’t compete at all because of illness and injury, Logansport still had strong enough performances to pull out the win.
Britt Foster and Brittany Bullard took first and second in the all-around to lead the Berries, who improve to 10-0 on the season.
Maggie Brown and Ingrid Scott were both out due to illness and Lynzi Monnin did not compete on floor or vault due to a sore knee. But LHS coach Kathy Farrer is hoping her gymnasts will be well rested for Saturday’s North Central Conference meet.
Foster finished the day with an all-around score of 36.25, which included first-place marks on beam and bars as well as second-place efforts on the floor and vault. Bullard was first on floor and vault, second on bars and third on beam to finish with a score of 35.775.
North Miami 55, Caston 30 (JH)
Austin Ault had two pins to lead the Comets.
Also, Matt Clupper had one pin and one decision, Bryant Liming won by pin and Graham Redweik won by decision.
