KOKOMO — Kokomo football coach Brett Colby on Monday announced he was retiring after a 28-season run that included previous stops at South Newton and Frankfort.
Colby closes with a 90-31 record in 11 seasons at Kokomo and a 205-98 record overall. His final Kokomo team went 9-5 and won Class 5A sectional, regional and semistate titles. Columbus North beat Kokomo 42-28 in the State Finals.
Colby's 200th career win came when Kokomo beat Logansport 48-7 on Sept. 29.
Just the eighth coach in Kokomo football’s 95-year history, Colby ranks No. 1 in winning percentage (.744) and No. 2 in wins behind Bob Hamilton, who had 147 over 27 seasons (1955-81).
