Sabatini’s was a life of service

The City of Logansport learned earlier this week of the death of former State Rep. Bob Sabatini, D-Logansport.

Sabatini was the District 24 representative who served all of Cass County and portions of Carroll and Fulton counties from 1989 to 1992. His election in 1988 notched the Indiana House of Representatives at 50-50 for the first time. He chose not to seek a third two-year term in 1992, and later served one term as Cass County sheriff.

Sabatini, who was a Logansport High School graduate, was a Michigan State University football signee before he returned to Cass County and worked in the sheriff’s department. He eventually became an Indiana State Trooper and ISP detective. He was a former recipient of the Indiana State Policeman of the Year Award and was presented the Sagamore of the Wabash by former Gov. Evan Bayh.

Bob Sabatini was one of the most popular policemen in the Logansport area and very well-liked by generations of residents. He enjoyed his life here and his career in public service after his law enforcement career was something that added value to his life. He was a man beloved by his family and friends, and our community grieves for them.

Sabatini was named a Logansport Bicentennial Citizen in 2016 and was among local residents who carried the Bicentennial Torch through the city.
