The Cass County Family Y is a proud member agency of the United Way of Cass County. We both work hard to make a positive impact in our local community.

The United Way of Cass County plays a key role in assisting the Cass County Family Y in fulfilling our mission and in making a difference in the lives of the individuals of our community by helping fund our financial assistance, Kids Crew Afterschool, Summer Day Camp, Teen Action Agenda and Y-Fit Kids Bootcamp programs.

A portion of the funds the Y receives from the United Way is used to provide financial assistance to local families so they can become Y members and help our local youth become an active participant in a Y program. It is important that the Y continue to be able to provide the financial assistance necessary for Y memberships and program participation, so no one is ever turned away due to the inability to pay.

The Y also receives United Way funding for our Kids Crew Afterschool and Summer Day Camp programs. These programs allow the Y to offer a safe, fun and supervised place for kids to go during the school year and summer months. The funding received from the United Way for these programs helps keep the cost low so more children can attend and participate.

Through the Y and United Way funding, we can provide every incoming 6th, 7th and 8th grader a free summer membership through our Teen Action Agenda. This program is designed to offer Cass County middle school-aged teenagers a safe, positive place to go during the summer while encouraging our local youth to live healthy lifestyles, improve social skills and make responsible choices.

Thanks to the United Way funding, the Y can also provide our Y-Fit Kids Bootcamp. This program is designed to help promote awareness and combat our local childhood obesity issues. This program provides instructor-led workouts, educational materials and healthy snacks twice a week for six weeks, 2-3 times per year.

The Cass County Family Y would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for the work of the United Way and to all the individuals and businesses that participate in the United Way annual campaign. Because of your support to the United Way, we can provide these quality programs at lower costs and be a place for everyone to belong.

Derreck Parkevich is the executive director of the Cass County Family Y.
