Kevin Burkett, editor of the Logansport Pharos-Tribune, was arrested by city police early Saturday morning on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and refusing to take a blood alcohol test.

Burkett, 47, of Logansport, was stopped by police at 2 a.m. in the 300 block of East Market Street in downtown Logansport, according to the arrest report. He was released from the Cass County Jail on a $250 cash bond.

Police have yet to release details of the incident. Officials with the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office said a probable cause affidavit would likely not be filed until after Thursday.

Robyn McCloskey, publisher of the Pharos-Tribune, said Burkett has been suspended, pending final determination of his case.

A native of Logansport, Burkett has served as editor of the Pharos-Tribune since October of 2016. He served on the Logansport City Council from January 2016 to October 2016, when he resigned to join the newspaper. He is the current president and CEO of the State Theatre Preservation Society, a nonprofit Logansport organization.

Burkett’s initial hearing in Cass County Superior 2 has not been scheduled.
