Police sirens

A Logansport motorist is waiting to find out if she will have a misdemeanor charge filed against her after a car crash involving a bicyclist.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday, a 2013 Ford Escape driven by Michelle Howard, 51, was traveling north on Third Street near the intersection of Wheatland Avenue when the vehicle hit a bicyclist, Brady Spencer, 47, of Los Angeles. According to a Logansport Police Department report, Spencer had been riding his bike south along the west side of Third Street when the car and bike collided.

Because the car and bicycle were moved prior to the officer’s arrival on scene, the officer questioned each party, including a witness. Ronald Toth of Logansport told the officer that Spencer had moved a “significant way through the intersection of North Third and Wheatland.”

Toth observed the vehicle collide with the bicyclist’s body, causing Spencer to strike the passenger side of the vehicle, the LPD report stated.

Howard informed the officer that she “heard a thud near the front passenger side of [her vehicle].”

Spencer, who is a 1992 Logansport High School graduate, was transported by medics to Logansport Memorial Hospital. He was treated and released, but said he continues to experience pain and plans to have X-rays taken before heading back to his California-based home.

He suffered a broken rib as well as contusions and bruises on his shoulders, hands and legs, he said.

According to the LPD report, Howard was believed to have been intoxicated. She was arrested and has since been released from the Cass County Jail on a $250 bond.
