The boyfriend of the former Logansport woman found dead in her Selma home has been preliminarily charged with murder.

Justin Dale Suits, 27, was held without bond today in the Delaware County jail.

Suits’ girlfriend, Marva Diana Rhea Strasser, 26, was found dead in her Selma home about 9 p.m. Saturday. A preliminary forensic report indicated she died in a manner “most consistent with her neck being compressed,” Delaware County Coroner James Clevenger said Tuesday afternoon.

Strasser officially died of asphyxiation, Clevenger said. Her death likely occurred many hours before it was reported, the coroner added.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday.

“Any further questions, I would refer to Selma Police Chief Steve Craycraft or the Delaware County prosecutor's office,” Clevenger said.

The Star Press in Muncie reported that details surrounding the homicide and a motive remained unclear on Tuesday.

Craycraft released few details and referred most questions to Deputy Prosecutor Mark McKinney, who will take office as prosecutor on Monday.

“It's still under investigation,” Craycraft said.

County offices were closed Tuesday and efforts to reach McKinney by cell phone were unsuccessful.

Authorities have called Strasser's death a homicide/attempted suicide.

Suits had cuts on his wrists when authorities arrived, and he was treated at Ball Memorial Hospital, Craycraft said.

Court records indicate Suits’ only previous trouble with the law locally was for traffic violations.

A neighbor, however, said police were called to the house during a quarrel last summer.

Strasser and Suits had a 3-month-old son, who has been placed in the custody of relatives.

Funeral services for Strasser will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Gundrum Funeral Home in Logansport.
