A head-on collision on 300 East near 1250 South Friday evening sent three people to area hospitals, including two that had to be airlifted from the scene.

According to Cass County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Pat Zeider, a Dodge Neon driven by James Scharle, Walton, was traveling southbound on 300 East when it went left of center into the northbound lane.

It then struck a Honda Accord driven by Bryant Liming, Logansport, who was traveling northbound on 300 East, police said.

Zeider stated that a passenger in Liming's vehicle told authorities that Liming tried to get out of the way, but a hill made it difficult to see Scharle's vehicle.

That passenger ended up uninjured in the collision.

Liming and Scharle, however, were both airlifted from the scene to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. A passenger in Scharle's vehicle was also injured and was transported by Prompt to Logansport Memorial Hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Along with Sgt. Zeider, Sgt. Gary Armstrong and Deputy Chris Jones are currently investigating the collision.
