Crash injures two

A 2005 Jeep Cherokee and a 2010 Dodge Ram crash Monday afternoon.

A two-vehicle accident was reported at the Burlington Exchange of the Hoosier Heartland Highway on US 24 at approximately 2:19 p.m. on Monday.

The initial scene assessment found a two-vehicle crash with the northbound lanes of State Road 19 blocked by both vehicles.

The preliminary investigation by Deputy Jonathan Ousley found that 39-year-old Rachel Henn, of Logansport, had been driving a 2005 Jeep Cherokee westbound on the ramp to State Road 29 when she failed to yield to a northbound 2010 Dodge Ram truck driven by 31-year-old Denise Vasquez, of Logansport.

Henn — along with a 4-year-old passenger — had to be extricated from the Jeep by fire personnel. They both sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Two Lutheran Helicopters were requested at the scene by medical personnel to take Henn and her juvenile passenger to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Several deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene. Walton Fire Department, Cass County Fire District 1, Phoenix Ambulance Service and Cass County Emergency Management Agency also responded to the call.

The investigation is ongoing and alcohol is not considered to be a factor in this crash. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 574-753-7800.
