WINAMAC — The town website recently got an overhaul that allows residents to pay their utility bills.

The site went live in early February after the town council approved a more than $2,000 proposal from New View Solutions, a Winamac web design firm.

"It was time for an upgrade," said Winamac Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger. "It needed a face lift."

A bar of links at the top of the homepage directs visitors to information on city departments, ordinances, forms and applications.

Town electric, water and wastewater customers can now pay their bills online.

About 20 of the town's more than 2,000 utilities customers have signed up for the service so far, Berger said.

She added she hopes customers won't always have to pay the current $3.95-per-transaction fee.

"If there is a way I can absorb that cost instead of charge the customer that cost — I'm still looking into things," she said.

The website also links to the town's Facebook page. Berger said she hopes to be able to add meeting minutes and news to the site in the future.
