A fire Saturday evening did substantial damage to a home in the 2200 block of Brookwood Drive, near the intersection of Chase and Davis Roads.

According to Cass County Fire District Lt. Rex Danely, the homeowner at 2215 Brookwood Dr. had been grilling food inside a screened-in porch and went back inside the house while burning off excess food on the grill when a smoke detector went off.

After returning to the porch area and discovering the fire, the homeowner got the rest of his family out of the house and called 911. No injuries were reported.

CCFD, New Waverly and Twelve Mile fire departments responded and then called in for tanker support from the Logansport Fire Department.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it does not appear to be malicious, according to Danely.
