The current Cass County Prosecutor will be sworn in as the newest judge in Cass County.
Gov. Eric J. Holcomb announced that he has chosen Lisa L. Swaim to succeed Richard A. Maughmer as judge for Cass County Superior Court II.
Maughmer died in September in an accident in his garage while doing automobile repairs.
Swaim said she received a phone call from the governor’s office late Tuesday.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to serve Cass County in a new role,” Swaim said.
According to the press release from the governor’s office, officials haven’t set a date to swear Swaim in yet. Swaim said transition would probably be later in the month, but her swearing-in date should be set after this holiday weekend.
It will take time to make the transition for both offices.
She didn’t know how or when her replacement as prosecutor would be chosen and deferred to Cass County Republican Chairman Michael Stajduhar.
Stajduhar could not immediately be reached for comment.
Swaim said that it will be an adjustment changing from being prosecutor to being a judge.
“I’ve loved working in the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office for the last 19 years and serving as prosecutor since January 2015,” she said. “Our county is still mourning Judge Maughmer, and I hope I can continue the legacy of integrity and efficiency that he had.”
Swaim earned her undergraduate degree from Ball State University and her law degree from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law.
