Arts fundraiser for JA coming up

A "Pint and Painting" fundraiser will start with social hour at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 21, and painting will begin at 7 p.m. at The State Theatre, 321 E. Market St. There will be live music by Adam Rogers, a silent auction and painting instruction by Teri Partridge.

Tickets are $60 per couple or $10 per observer, must be 21 or older to attend. Proceeds benefit Junior Achievement.

McTaggart contest seeks submissions

The Logansport-Cass County Public Library is seeking submissions for the sixth annual McTaggart Creative Writing Awards for 2015. The deadline for entries is the close of business May 1, 2015. These awards honor the memory of Bill McTaggart.

As in years past, there will be two categories, poetry and prose. In each category there will be two divisions: student and adult.

There will be cash prizes within each division of each category. First place wins a cash prize of $300, second place $200, and third place $100. First-place winners in each of the four divisions will be eligible to win the grand prize of $500.

Each contestant may submit up to five entries per category. Winners will be announced at an awards presentation and public reading at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 in the West Conference Room of the library.

Pancake, sausage on menu March 28

TWELVE MILE — The Twelve Mile Community Fire Department First Responders will be hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Twelve Mile Community Building.

Proceeds will be used to purchase medical equipment to assist community members and visitors. Donations will be accepted.

Brother of MIA man to speak 

MONTICELLO — Jack DuVall will be telling the story of the search for his brother at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at Sitka Baptist Church, 7018 E. 500 North, Monticello.

Chief Master Sergeant Dean A. DuVall, whose AC-47 crashed during a mission in Laos in 1966. For nearly 50 years, the DuVall family has been looking for answers and take the POW/MIA motto "You Are Not Forgotten" to heart. Free and open to the public.

Volunteers sought for Green and Clean Day 

Logan’s Landing is recruiting volunteers to help pick up litter, sweep, weed and trim, and generally spruce up the downtown district from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 18, for Green and Clean Day.

Volunteers may be individuals, families, or teams from businesses, churches, clubs or other organizations. Volunteers are asked to bring their own yard work tools and gardening gloves with them.
