Family Video

A for lease/sale sign hangs in the front widow at Family Video. The company is trying to lease out half of their 11,000-square-foot building.

The rumors that Family Video, 318 12th St., is being replaced by a dollar store are just that — rumors.

It’s a variation on the stories that started when a real estate sign appeared in the store’s window last spring.

But Family Video is not selling the building, which is at the intersection of 12th and East Market Street.

It’s just trying to lease out about a half of its 11,000-square-foot building

District Manager Suzanne Peterson stated by email that not much has changed since last year.

“At this time our location in Logansport is not closing,” she stated.

There was a dollar store that had been considering renting space but declined because of the size.

The store’s manager, Alina Milburn, told the Pharos-Tribune last year, that the typical Family Video building is 2,500 square feet.

“We have almost 800 stores and this building is in the top 10, size-wise,” Milburn said then.

Leasing out half of the current building makes financial sense.

Family video owns the buildings their stores are in, which has allowed them to survive over those that had rented space.
