El Rinconcito del Sabor, a new Salvadorian restaurant, is adding to Logansport’s multicultural smorgasbord of food options.

Opened in early August, El Rinconcito del Savor, 921 N. 3rd St., serves a menu featuring pupusas, pastalitos and Salvadorian enchiladas.

“We have a special menu you won’t find anyplace else in town,” said co-owner Fernando Guerrero. “You have to go to a city like Indianapolis or Chicago to find what we sell here.”

Guerrero said his wife and co-owner, Evelyn, had dreamed of owning a restaurant for many years.

The process to open El Rinconcito del Sabor and fulfill that dream was not an easy process. The building the Guerreros purchased was a former barber shop. It took a lot of work over several years to transform it into a tiny eatery.

The work was worth it, however. Customers are greeted by warm aquamarine walls and a faux-brick arch when entering. The combination is inviting and friendly.

The Guerreros have seen a nice mix of new faces and returning customers over the two month span they have been in business.

“The thing that makes us happy is the customers who come back,” Guerrero said. “They come back because they are happy with what we are doing. We have to work hard to keep them coming back.”

Guerrero grew up in Logansport, graduating from Logansport High School. His wife arrived in town a decade ago.

“I grew up in this community,” he said. “Ever since I was a kid I was welcomed. We are lucky. It’s a small town but everyone feels very welcomed. People feel happy and everyone gets along. A lot of people from other countries found their place where they can raise their families with no problem. And it’s the same thing with the restaurant, we see all ethnic groups come in. It makes us happy that different people are trying the food.”

The Guerreros are proud to be part of a surge in new businesses that have arrived in Logansport.

“All the remodeling, the new businesses, it’s so good for the town,” he said. “It attracts more families and overall makes everyone happy. It makes a better town.”

One of his happiest moments since opening was seeing the owners of La Fiesta, 524 North St., not only visit El Rinconcito del Sabor but even promote the new business to their own customers via an August 14 Facebook post.

“We feel thankful for that,” he said. “It makes us feel welcomed.”

El Rinconcito del Sabor is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturdays from 9 until 8 p.m., and Sunday from 9 until 4 p.m.
