A Monticello man was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision on US 421 north of County Road 525 North.in Carroll County.
Senior Trooper Tyler Stinson of the Indiana State Police responded to a call of a collision at 11:30 a.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed a red 2016 Buick Enclave, driven by Celestino Martinez, 80, of Monticello, was traveling northbound on US 421 and went left of the center line for an unknown reason. At the same time, a 2021 Ford IU Hospital Ambulance was traveling southbound on US 421 and was struck head-on by the Buick. Both vehicles came to rest on the east side of the road.
Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Carroll County Coroner.
The driver and passengers of the ambulance were transported by EMS to a Lafayette area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Also assisting at the scene were more troopers from the Lafayette Post, troopers from the Peru Post, Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, Carroll County Sherriff's Department, Carroll County Coroner, Delphi Tri-Township Fire Department, Monticello Fire Department, Carroll EMS, Mels towing, and Farnerys Towing.
