AKRON – From a parade to a run/walk and from beauty pageants to a cute baby contest, the Fulton County town of Akron is gearing up for a fun July 4 celebration.

Registrations are now being accepted for the Firecracker 5K Run/Walk and the Sparkler 1-Mile Fun Run. Sponsored by the non-profit group, the Akron Las Donas Club, deadline to register for either event is June 26.

Online registration is at secure.getmeregistered.com/get_information.php?event_id=135621 and is open until July 1st . Paper registrations are available at the Akron Town Office. People also may register that morning between 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. for $30 per person at the Akron Elementary School.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. on July 3rd at the Akron Elementary School.

Overall winners and age group winners will be announced immediately following the race. The top three walkers will also receive medals. This is a chip-timed event on an open course.

A penny-a-vote Cute Baby Contest will be held on July 4. The deadline to enter the contest is Thursday, June 24.

The contest is open to children aged 3 years and younger on or before July 4, 2021. Voting will take place at the Akron Lake City Bank between June 25 – July 3. First-, second- and third-place winners will be announced on July 4 at 9 a.m. at the Akron Fire Station.

All participants attending the awards ceremony will receive a gift. Please forward the entry form with $1 entry fee and 2 – 4x6 or smaller identical photos (non-returnable) by mail to Brenda Ross at 13271 E. Ind. 114, Akron, IN 46910.

Lineup for the parade starts at noon on July 4 with the parade beginning at 2 p.m. Lineup is at the Sonoco Co. off of Ind. 19.

Featured during the parade will be the winner of the annual Miss Akron Contest, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27th at the Akron Community Center.

Likewise, the Miss Sparkler and Mr. Sparkler Contest winners for children aged 4 to 7 years old, will be in the parade. Entry fee is $5 with registration due by June 24th.

The Sparkler pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at the Akron Community Center.
