A Peru woman lost her life Tuesday morning when the vehicle in which she was a passenger pulled into the path of a semi-tractor.
At approximately 9:44 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department and the Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at U.S.24 and Logansport Road.
According to the ISP, a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by B. Scott McCoy, Sr., 52, Peru, was traveling on Logansport Road when it pulled into the path of a westbound semi-tractor driven by Harold Clinch, 55, Milan, Mo. hit the passenger’s side of the Mercury.
The passenger of the Mercury, 44-year-old Peru resident Shownelle McCoy was pronounced dead at the scene. B. Scott McCoy was flown from the crash site to a Fort Wayne hospital, the ISP reported.
The driver of the semi-tractor was not injured.
Debris was scattered across the roadway with a cell phone thrown several feet from where the Mercury came to rest in the median.
As clean-up crews made their way to the scene, officers continued to investigate. The ISP stated that neither alcohol nor narcotics were linked to the crash.
Glass was assisted at the crash scene by Lutheran Medical Helicopter, the New Waverly Fire Department, the Peru Fire Department, Cass County EMS, Master Trooper Chris Miller, Master Trooper Ezariah Bricknell, Master Trooper Aaron Schall, Senior Trooper Jeremy Perez, Senior Trooper Todd Trottier and Trooper Jon Cole.
Others assisting included the Cass County Coroner’s Office, Phoenix Paramedic Solutions, and Walton Community Volunteer Fire Department.
