A Logansport woman was arrested Monday evening on preliminary charges relating to the death of a Miami County man that occurred earlier this week.
Brayden M. Berkshire, 18, was arrested on charges of reckless homicide, a Level 5 felony, and a Level 6 felony count of obstruction of justice, according to a Miami County Sheriff's Office news release.
The charges stem from the death of Nathan Joe Hopper, 18, a former Logansport High School student, who police found dead of a gunshot wound inside his residence in the 3100 block of North Mexico Road in Miami County on Sunday morning, the release stated.
Berkshire was taken into custody without incident Monday evening, the release stated, and she has since been released from the Miami County Jail on $15,000 bail.
Matt Jones, principal of LHS — where Berkshire is a senior honor roll student and member of the varsity volleyball team — addressed the situation Tuesday afternoon.
"This is a tragic event, and we want to allow the authorities to do their investigation," he stated.
Pending further investigation into the incident, police have not released any more information at this time. According to the Miami County Prosecutor's Office, there has also yet to be a filing of a probable cause affidavit.
An investigation is being conducted by the Miami County Sheriff's office, the Miami County Coroner's office and the Indiana State Police.
