Julie Marchese, CPP, of Julie Mar-K-Z Photography in Logansport, has earned the Photographic Craftsman degree from Professional Photographers of America [PPA].

She received the honor on Jan. 17 at the PPA’s annual convention, Imaging USA, which was held virtually this year.

PPA president Gregory Daniel, M. Photog. Cr., CPP, F-ASP, presented the degree to Marchese, and she was one of only 40 recipients.

“This is the second of three goals I set for myself several years ago,” Marchese stated. “It has been very important to me personally and professionally to achieve these goals”

She received her Certified Professional Photographers degree (CPP) in 2019 and her Photographic Craftsman Degree (Cr.) in 2021.

Marchese earned her Photographic Craftsman degree by achieving 25 merits. She needed a combination of 13 Speaking merits and 12 additional merits (Exhibition, Wedding Exhibition, Artist Exhibition and/or Service).

This new degree means that Marchese has met the standards of excellence set by the PPA, and it’s a recognition of her service to the photographic profession as an orator, author and mentor.

“The expertise it requires illustrates her accomplishments and talent as one of a selected few,” according to the official announcement.

Marchese stated she continues to work toward her Master of Photography degree.

“By earning these degrees it shows my dedication and love for my craft,” she said. “It’s about striving to be your best, investing countless hours into continued education through Professional Photographers of America (PPA), [and] learning and educating others to be the best they can be in the world of Professional Photographers.

In her personal statement on her degree, Marchese quoted John Baskin, “If you hear or read stories on how successful people achieve their extraordinary accomplishments, most of them always start by stating their secret: they follow their passion.”

The PPA is the largest and longest-standing nonprofit photography trade association. Founded in 1868, PPA currently helps 30,000 professionals elevate their craft and grow their business with resources and education, all under PPA’s core guiding principle of bridging the gap between photographers and consumers.
