MARSHALL COUNTY- Police are saying that one student was killed when an Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation school bus collided with a truck on U.S. 31 between Argos and Plymouth Wednesday morning.
The identity or age of that student is not being released at this time.
According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Ted Bohner, the school bus was traveling northbound and was at a spot on the highway near a set of railroad tracks. Bohner said pending investigation, he didn't know whether the bus was slowing down, stopped or beginning to speed up, but he said the bus was following proper procedures when it was rear-ended by the truck.
Bohner also said 39 students were on the bus at the time of the incident, along with several adults, and those students were taken to hospitals in Plymouth to be checked out and reunited with their parents. There was also another student that was taken to a hospital in South Bend with non-life threatening injuries, Bohner confirmed.
A parent told WNDU that the Winamac Community Middle School students were on a field trip to see "Elf the Musical" at the Wagon Wheel Theatre in Warsaw.
