Champion scores 1,000th point in win

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Nate Champion scored his 1,000th career point as the Le Moyne College men’s basketball team defeated Adelphi University, 75-59, on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Champion had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the win. Le Moyne improved to 7-5 and 4-2 in the NE-10.

Champion, a 6-4 guard, is the 40th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone at the NCAA Divison-II school.

DePaul women fall at Creighton 86-78

OMAHA, Neb. – Despite 26 points from Jasmine Penny, the DePaul women’s basketball team fell 86-78 at Creighton in Big East Conference action at D.J. Sokol Arena. Creighton has won its last four games and improves to 9-6 and 3-0 in the BIG EAST, while DePaul falls to 10-4 and 1-1 in league games.

The Blue Demons led 37-29 at the half, but 28 second-half points from Creighton’s McKenzie Fujan fueled the Creighton come-from-behind win. Fujan finished with a career-high 38 points and led three other Bluejays in double-figures.

Creighton shot 67.9 percent in the second half and was a sizzling 6-of-8 from behind the arc. Conversely, the Blue Demons, who were averaging a Big East best 8.9 3-pointers per game, connected on just three triples in the game.

Penny reached the 20-point mark for the third consecutive game, while Megan Rogowski and Brittany Hrynko each finished with 15 points. Chanise Jenkins finished with 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Megan Podkowa also grabbed eight rebounds and added eight points.

Titans fire Munchak after 3 years

The Tennessee Titans have fired Mike Munchak after three seasons as head coach and 31 years combined with this franchise as a player and coach.

The Titans confirmed the firing Saturday.

General manager Ruston Webster says in a statement that the last week was a difficult time trying to figure out how to move the Titans forward. The general manager says tough choices resulted in the decision to go on without Munchak.
