Chargers, Browns split grid contests

The Chargers and the Browns split a pair of Logansport Youth Football contests this past weekend.

In the senior game, the Chargers won 14-6. For the Chargers, Brayton Jellison scored on a 29-yard TD and scored a 2-point conversion, and Santiago Henderson scored on a 55-yard interception return. Jacob Kingery and Payton Gates led the Charger defense with eight tackles each. Derek Klimes added six tackles.

In the junior game, the Browns won 34-14. Hunter Babb led the Chargers with 108 yards rushing and two TDs. Kasey Ault rushed for 66 yards. Aaron Kemper added a two-point conversion.

The Chargers travel to Logansport this Sunday to play the Packers starting at 1 p.m.

VanVleet hits ace at Logan’s Run

Margaret VanVleet hit a hole-in-one at Logan’s Run Family Golf Center on Monday.

VanVleet hit the ace on the second hole using a three-quarters swing with a driver. The shot was witnessed by Shirley Kelly and Shelia Hines.

Logan Babe Ruth holding fall league

Logansport Babe Ruth will once again hold Fall Ball.

This year’s Fall Ball will start Sunday, Sept. 7 and will run every Sunday after that until Oct. 10.

There will be two age divisions this year. The first will be for any player who played this past season as a 12-, 13- or 14-year-old. This group will play on Sundays at 1 p.m. The second group will be for players who played this year as a 15-, 16-, 17- or 18-year-old. They will play their games at 3:30 p.m. on Sundays.

The cost to play is $30 with breaks for more than one child in the same family. Logansport Babe Ruth Fall Ball is open to any and all players who wish to play. This includes players who may not be from Logansport or do not play Babe Ruth in Logansport.

12u softball team holding tryouts

The Indiana Rockets 12u girls travel softball team, formerly the Logansport Havoc, will be holding tryouts for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

Nitros 16u softball sets final tryout

The Nitros 16u travel softball team will have a final tryout on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Galveston Youth Softball field.

The team, based in Galveston, will participate in several ASA, NSA and USSSA tournaments as well as college exposure and national tournaments beginning this Fall.

Pink Ladies set softball tryout

A tryout for the Pink Ladies 14u NSA girls gastpitch softball team will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 1-3 p.m. at the AIM Field of Dreams located directly across from the Cass County 4-H Fairgrounds in Logansport.

The Pink Ladies are an NSA sanctioned travel team and will be competing in tournaments in North Central Indiana. Any girl who is 14 years old or younger on Jan. 1, 2009 is eligible to tryout for the team.

Vernon Golf Outing on tap Sunday

The William K. Vernon Memorial Golf Outing has been set for Sunday at Pond View Golf Course.

There will be tee times at both 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cost is $45 per individual and $180 per team. Lunch will be provided and prizes will be available.

Proceeds from the outing will go towards the William K. Vernon Scholarship Fund which benefits Pioneer seniors who are pursuing a secondary education.
