Garrison finishes runner-up at BC invite

OXFORD — The Carroll girls golf team finished ninth out of 14 teams with a 433 at the Benton Central Invitational at the Oak Grove Country Club Friday. 

Megan Garrison led the Cougars with an 8 over par 81 and finished runner-up among individuals. Rounding out the scoring for the Cougars were Taylor Sproul with a 102, Malena Zook with a 108 and Katie Unger and Emma Packard both carding a 142.

The Cougars return to action on Monday when they compete in the Twin Lakes Invitational.

Lady Kings golfers top Eastern

The Lewis Cass girls golf team defeated Eastern 243-250 at the Logansport Golf Club on Thursday.

Cass’ Alisha Layman was the medalist with a 6 over par 42. Also for the Kings, Heather Fry carded a 63, Haley Clark shot a 67, Hollie Boyles had a 71 and Shelby Fry came in with a 73.

Michelle Carpenter paced Eastern with a 58.

Cass next travels to Logansport on Tuesday.

Middle school football callout set for Tuesday

Football callout for all seventh and eight grade boys enrolled at Lincoln or Columbia will be on Tuesday after school at Lincoln Middle School.

Students will need completed physical forms to be eligible to participate.

Russiaville to host fall baseball league

RUSSIAVILLE — Russiaville will be hosting a fall league for 8u and 11u baseball teams.

All teams including those outside of the Russiaville area are welcome. Games will be played on Saturdays starting on Aug. 23. The league will conclude with an end of season tournament on Oct. 4.

Mawbey to have retirement party

WALTON — Former Lewis Cass and Kokomo boys basketball coach Basil Mawbey will have a retirement party in the Cass High School Cafeteria from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Any former players and fans are invited to celebrate his 40-plus years of coaching Indiana basketball.
