Fultz is Fan MVP of All-Star game

by Beau Wicker
Pharos-Tribune sports editor

Now that his organized baseball career is over, Mark Fultz might want to consider a career as an elected official.

The recently graduate from Logansport High School won the vote for Fan MVP of the fourth annual Pharos-Tribune/Kokomo Tribune All-Star Baseball Game played on Wednesday night. Fultz won with a landslide 64.29 percent of the votes out of 168 votes casted. Lewis Cass’ Damon Foreman finished runner-up in the vote at 13.69 percent, over 40 points behind Fultz. Logansport’s Matt McKay was third in the vote at 6.55 percent.

“I’m actually really surprised about that,” Fultz said of being named Fan MVP. “It’s pretty cool I guess.”

How did Fultz win by such a landslide?

“I’ve got a lot of friends I guess. I’m not sure,” he said. “I have a lot of good people supporting me though.”

As for the All-Star game itself, the Loganland All-Stars were handed a 14-4 loss by the Howard County All-Stars to fall to 0-3-1 in the all-time series.

“It was kind of a landslide, but it was still a lot of fun playing,” Fultz said of the contest. “They had some really good pitchers, that’s for sure, and we made quite a few errors.”

Fultz went 0-for-3 batting leadoff and playing third base for the Loganland All-Stars.

“It was pretty cool meeting new people and making new friends,” Fultz said of participating in the All-Star festivities. “I’m glad I had the chance to do it.”

For Logansport this past season as the team’s starting third baseman and leadoff man, Fultz hit .381 with 10 RBI and 21 runs scored, which was third best on the team. He had a team-high 18 stolen bases.

“It was the best year I’ve ever had,” Fultz said. “We had so many seniors and we had a lot of fun. I’m going to miss it.”

Fultz plans to attend Purdue University and major in management.
