Girls track athletes competing in regionals across the state Tuesday are a top-three finish away from advancing to the state finals.
Athletes from Logansport, Pioneer, Cass and Caston are competing at the Bremen Regional.
The Berries had a pair of sophomores win sectional titles last week. Glorisel Cruz won the 800 and Baleigh Deitrich took first in the 100 hurdles.
“Our sophomore group has been our biggest point scorers this season. They’re a very talented group,” Logan coach Randy Kuhn said.
Brittany Bullard tied for the highest mark in the pole vault at the sectional but finished second due to misses. She’s the defending regional champion in the event.
“She’s an amazing kid,” Kuhn said of the senior. “She’s had a rough year. She’s struggled most of the season.
“Even though she’s struggled most of the season she’s only three inches off where she was last year at this time. She’s been building this season up to this point.”
Both the Berries’ 1600 and 3200 relay teams will compete at the regional, and Deitrich will also compete in the 300 hurdles.
Pioneer’s Cady Caudle won the sectional championship in the 3200 last week.
“I knew she had it in her,” Pioneer coach Shawn Kimmel said of the junior. “All season she’s ran in the mile, the two mile and the 4x8. She really focused on the 3200 for the sectional and she ran her best time of the season.”
Pioneer’s 3200 relay team will also compete at the regional.
Cass Brittiani Gillem will compete in the 1600, Kassie Sprinkle will compete in the shot put and Rhi Sanders will compete in the discus.
Caston’s Kayley Woods advanced to the Bremen Regional with a second-place finish in the 800 at the Rochester Sectional. Woods broke her own school record in the process with a time of 2:30.82.
“She’s been improving her time every meet as long as she has competition,” Caston coach Tara Wolfe of the junior.
Winamac’s Tabby Halleck won the 100 and was runner-up in the 200 at the Kankakee Valley Sectional. Ali Parks was the champion in the shot put.
Also representing the Warriors at the Chesterton Regional will be Rachael Franko in the 300 hurdles, Linsey Foerg in the pole vault and Jordan Brandt in the long jump. Winamac’s 400 relay team is also set to compete.
Carroll’s Jaime McCarter will compete in both the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles, and Ashley Bordner will compete in the 1600 at the West Lafayette Regional. Delphi’s Olivia George will compete in the high jump.
