Berries swept by Vikings
Oracle golfers drop match to Bison

After falling behind 4-2 after the first two innings, the Logansport baseball team bounced back with a two-run fourth to pull even with the host Vikings in Wednesday night. However, Huntington North scored four in the sixth to earn an 8-4 win.
Nathan Champion took the loss after relieving starter Chase Myers, who pitched two-thirds of an inning. The sophomore hurler allowed five runs, all earned, on nine hits while walking two and striking out four.
At the plate, the Berries were lead by Ike Homburg and Sam Starbuck, who hit the only two extra base hits of the night for Logan. Cam Foster, Matt McKay, Homburg and Starbuck earned RBIs.
Logan (11-10, 4-4 in NCC) will travel to New Castle on Saturday for an North Central Conference doubleheader against the Trojans.
Logan 14, Huntington North 8 (JV)
The Berries got three hits from Chris Titus, who also scored three runs and drove in five, in a win over the Vikings Wednesday night.
Andrew Rowe also drove in five runs on two hits, and laid down a bunt on a successful squeeze play.
Alex Eltington earned the win while Alec Ely pitched the final two innings.
Logan improves to 13-4 on the season.
Logan 7, Richmond 4 (JV) (Tuesday)
The JV Berries scored six runs in the first inning in their win Tuesday night over the Red Devils.
Matt Metz, Brandon Bider and Zach Bennett combined to allow four runs on seven hits.
Austin Hildebrand and Jacob McCord earned two hits apiece.
Boys Golf
Benton Central 168, Delphi 171
Delphi golfer Scott Collins finished as the medalist Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough for his team to top Benton Central at Carroll County Country Club.
Chad Porter and Brady McKinney each shot rounds of 40 on the par-35 course, leading the Visiting Bison (6-3) to a 168-171 win.
Eric Askren finished with a 43, while Ryan Brummet rounded out the scoring with a round of 45. Dustin Murray shot a 46.
Troy Minier shot a 41 for Delphi (4-7) while Brandon Delaney finished with a 46 while Blake Price was the final Oracle golfer to score for the varsity with a round of 48. Dan Clawson shot 50.
Delphi will return to action on Saturday when they compete in the Hoosier Conference Meet.
Frontier 194, Carroll 216 (Tuesday)
The Cougars failed to earn a round under 50 Tuesday night in their loss to Frontier at Pine View Golf Course in Monticello.
Dallas Butcher paced Carroll with a 53, while Seth Pencek and Cody Abdon each added rounds of 54, while Matt Clark shot a 55 and Owen Hicks rounded out the scoring with a 60.
Aaron Beacer shot a 77.
Medalist honors were shared by Falcon golfers Ryan Demerly and Tylor Strim, who finished with rounds of 47. Colton Oland shot a 49, while Zach Theobald turned in a 51 for the afternoon. Mack Lopp rounded out the scoring with a 57.
Elliot Frost shot a 58.
Carroll will compete in the Hoosier Heartland Conference Meet at Deer Creek on Saturday.
Winamac 153, Pioneer 177, Tri-County 182 (Tuesday)
The Warriors improved to 12-0 on the season with wins over the Panthers and Cavaliers Tuesday night.
Noah Bonnell earned medalist honors with a score of 36. Josh Ruff followed his teammate with a round of 38.
Kagen Scott shot a 39, while Kevin Smith finished with a 40 and Charlie Dilts finished with 41. Jeff Girton finished just outside of the scoring with a round of 50.
Pioneer was led by Jake Franklin, John Farrer and Kyle Gerlach with team-lows of 44. Will Land finished with a round of 45 and Ty Shrontz rounded out the scoring with a score of 47. Zach Ide earned a round of 52.
Wabash 192, Northfield 197 Caston 205 (Tuesday)
The Comets dropped their third and fourth matches of the season Tuesday night.
Nick Roe led Caston with a team-low score of 46, while Matt Reichart finished with a 49. Boston Blackman earned a 51, while Kyle Moudy shot a 59 and Shane Biscella finished with a round of 61.
Caston (3-4) will compete in the Midwest Conference Meet at Pineview in Monticello on Friday.
Northwestern 216, Cass 223 (Jr. High) (Monday)
The Kings fell for only the second time this season with their loss to the Tigers.
David Watterson turned in a score of 48, while Kalen Linback shot a round of 50. Ryan Aldridge finished the day with a 52 and Riley Johnson rounded out the scoring with a 63.
Softball
Triton 14, Caston 8
The Lady Comets tried to bounce back against their loss to the Lady Warriors in a make-up game against The Lady Trojans.
Triton scored a total of 10 runs in the first three innings and four in the final three. Caston countered with four in the first two, two in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Chelsea Sivits took the loss inside the pitching circle. She falls to 2-6 on the season, striking out six and walking eight in seven innings of work.
Shelby Loeffler lead the Comets at the plate, hitting a double and a triple while driving in one run. Emily See earned two RBIs on one hit while Erica Zartman hit an RBI-single. Caitlin Frey also hit a double for Caston (5-13, 1-3 in MWC).
The loss followed a 17-3 loss to Winamac.
Frey took the loss to fall to 3-7. She struck out three and walked two.
At the plate, Frey tried to help her own cause, with three hits, including a double and an RBI-triple. See hit in a run on a sacrifice, while Christine Rentschler drove in a run on a ground out.
Caston will travel to Wabash this afternoon.
Girls Tennis
Delphi 4, Benton Central 1 (Tuesday)
The Lady Oracles picked up a convincing victory over the Lady Bison on Tuesday.
Haley Richardson topped Brooke Wallpe 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while No. 3 player Irina Hariri defeated Mina Hansen 6-2, 6-4.
Both of Delphi’s doubles team earned victories.
The No. 1 team of Katie Mullin and Ali Canen topped Benton Central’s Alysha Witli and Heather Sarles 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Amber Caputo and Grace Mears topped Morgan O’Donnell and Kelse Craig 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.
Delphi improves to 3-9 on the season.
Boys track
Frankfort Relays (Monday)
The Lewis Cass boys track team finished third out of six teams at the Frankfort Relays.
Earning wins for the Kings were the team of Derek Pullen, Jeff Plank, Gordon Riley and Dean Sixbey in the shuttle hurdles (54.38), and Matt Eckelbarger, Derrick Worden and Jared Crum in the high jump (16’ 0”).
Sixbey, Ward, Albert Paitoo and Josh Knutson took second in the 4 x 100 relay (46.5), as did the sprint relay team of Sixbey, Ward, Knutson and Paitoo (1:40.94).
