Flora man ejected from truck in crash

DELPHI — A Flora man was thrown from his vehicle Tuesday when it crashed into a utility pole along Ind. 25 south of Delphi.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 2007 Dodge pickup truck driven by 27-year-old Michael Yates of Flora was passing two vehicles about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday when it went out of control on a patch of black ice and struck a utility pole.

According to police, Yates was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from the truck.

Yates was taken by Carroll County ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette where he was listed in fair condition this morning.

Police say the black ice might have been caused by drainage problem where melting snow had run off onto the road and re-froze. Investigators said speed and road conditions might have contributed to the accident.
