With spring and warmer weather (finally!), brings another baseball season. The board and managers/coaches at Logansport Youth Baseball have been extremely busy over the past two years renovating both our fields to provide a quality atmosphere for our players and fans who support our league.
Last year, we completely skinned and leveled the infield of Crain Field. With that came the construction of new dugouts further down the foul lines to open up the field of play. We also installed safety netting along the outfield fence to provide safety for our spectators.
This year, we tackled the same type of project on Metz Field, but we took on the outfield, as well. With the delay of the start of spring, we had to wait on Mother Nature, but, finally, on April 20, a group of volunteers laid 30,000 square feet of sod on Metz Field.
These types of projects are not possible without the support of volunteers, and a community full of generous corporate partners, to help not-for-profits like us provide a quality baseball experience for our players and fans. We want to thank the folks at Slusser’s Green Thumb, Fissel Electric, Shepler Construction, Engineering Aggregates, Essroc, A. Raymon Tinnerman, Cass County Community Foundation, Tri-Green Tractor, Denny’s Lawn Care, Sherwin Williams, Home Depot, McCord’s Do it Best, Jay Kitchel, Bob Crider and Schroder Masonry. We also want to thank our partners at Pepsi Cola for the donation of two new scoreboards. And, we’d like to thank Dave Wegner and Dave Houser and their crew from the Cass County Work Release program for the hours of labor they provided.
Of course our league wouldn’t be possible without the volunteer efforts of our managers, coaches and parents who run practices, sell fundraisers, eat dinner at our concession stand and cheer and support their players. We also greatly appreciate the support or our team sponsors and those businesses who invest in advertising with us. There is more to running a baseball league than most realize, and it wouldn’t be possible without the contributions of all these folks.
Again, thank you to everyone and anyone who has contributed some time, money or support this spring. We hope you can find some time to come out this summer and join us for an evening at the ballpark supporting our kids as they learn the great game of baseball.
