• To Robert W. Julian on his recent recognition by the American Numismatic Association as its Numismatist of the Year. Julian received the recognition at the organization’s annual convention in Philadelphia last month. Now 73, Julian has written more than 1,300 articles for coin magazines and journals and published one book on rare coins in 1977. Julian is the 17th recipient of the award, which was established in 1995.
• To the nearly 170 people who turned out for the fourth Annual 2 Rivers on 2 Wheels. Organizers say the event has grown every year, and this year’s turnout was the biggest yet. The event was sponsored by Logansport Memorial Hospital, the Logansport Department of Parks and Recreation, the Cass County Family YMCA, the Dick Sims Agency, Cass County Visitors Bureau, the Mid-America Radio Group, Ivy Tech Community College and Beacon Credit Union.
• To the Cass County Arts Alliance on its annual Art on the Avenue event. The event drew perfect weather with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s, and though the crowd might have been smaller than some years, both artists and vendors reported that sales were up from previous years. The event also drew a large number of youngsters to take part in face painting, karaoke and other activities. Adults also turned out Saturday evening for a night of music at the alliance’s Music on Melbourne event.
• To the Cass County Family YMCA on its selection of a new executive director. The YMCA board of directors announced Monday that Shelly A. Butler, formerly executive director of a YMCA in St. Louis, had been appointed as the new executive director of the Cass County YMCA. She is set to begin her new job Oct. 1. Butler has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Georgia State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Benedictine University. Originally from Indiana, Butler graduated from Tri-Central High School in Sharpsville and has family near Rossville.
