PUBLIC FORUM: Thanks for all your hard work, volunteeers

Pharos-Tribune

---- — Thanks for all your hard work, volunteeers

A whole bouquet of roses to the business or group of persons who saw that all the hanging baskets and tubs of flowers were placed on Burlington Avenue and its side streets.

A week or so ago, I was returning to Logan after making a purchase on the edge of town on a beautiful spring day. There they all were. I was so impressed and happy to see it all!

I decided to check out the Fairview area as a day or so before there was an article in the paper about the new grandstands. My but they are nice. So are the baseball parks and play area.

Our out-of-town guest and visitors are going to see all of this. What a few people can do when they put their mind to do something nice.

I am so proud of our volunteers! There is a special place in Heaven for you all! Thank you!

Walton will miss Gordon Southern

We were so sorry to hear of Gordon Southern’s plans to move out of state and his resignation from the Walton library. Mr. Southern has been a wonderful asset to our community for many years.

He taught science at Lewis Cass until he resigned that job to take the library position. As a community leader, he has been invaluable. He has been an officer in Lions Club and Main Street Inc. for many years, has helped plan and plant some of the plants at the park by the post office, he has painted the old buildings downtown, been instrumental in the town Wi-Fi, and many other works.

Most of the things he did, he did without credit, ceremony or praise. That is just the kind of man he is.

As the director of the Walton library, he has been an excellent leader. He has attended meetings to keep abreast of new trends for the library, made improvements to the facility and kept the library a central part of town!

We wish you well, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon. We understand your wish to be nearer to your grandchildren, but you most definitively will be missed in Walton! Thank you for your outstanding service to the Walton community.
