Thank you to everyone who wished the Logansport Eagles #323 a happy 111th birthday.
Unfortunately, we are probably observing our last anniversary as a member of the Eagles community. We’ve had a long tradition of doing some pretty great things in our community, but as time has passed, our membership has declined, our standing in the community has declined, our ability to support ourselves has diminished, and we have little choice but to look at reality. We’ve proudly been able to make a difference in this community in the past with our donations, our sponsorships and our dedication to the People Helping People slogan of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. We were blessed in the past and in the late stages of the Eagles with great people with only our organization in mind.
We were also harmed greatly during a few short years with people with their own greedy agendas. The end result is what we are looking at today: An empty building, and only a handful of people who still are doing all that they can to re-open. Unfortunately with little help, with little support and with practically no assets, it appears that the end is very near.
For those people who were raised in the Eagles, for those who have raised their children at the Eagles, for those who have benefited from the fact that the Eagles has existed in Logansport, the end will come very tearfully and sadly. There are so many organizations we have helped, and so many benefits we have sponsored in the past that they are just too many to list here.
There are also those who have continually criticized us about everything that we’ve tried to accomplish in the past few years, recalling those very short years when things were not being operated in the best interests of the membership. Some people seem to love to dwell on that period, and it has hurt us greatly.
