Thorns & Roses

Cranking away

The Pharos-Tribune extends this Rose to all the city and county plow truck drivers who worked overtime this week to get roads cleared:

It was an uphill battle — sometimes, literally — when Mother Nature decided cold winds would be a great way to top off an already severe snowstorm. Roads once plowed were drifted right back shut, but nevertheless, plow crews plugged away until city and county residents could leave their homes. Firefighters stepped up to fill in when streets and highway crews were worn out, and the City of Logansport stepped in when mechanical troubles threw a wrench into county plowing efforts. We appreciate all the work you put in.

Showing school pride

The Pharos-Tribune extends this Rose to Shelby Price, a Logansport girl who built a Felix snowman:

When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. That’s just what Logansport girl Shelby Price did after snow started falling on the city. Sculpting ears, eyes, a nose and a mouth out of a large ball of snow, Shelby added coloring to recreate the Logansport High School mascot in snow. She brought smiles to hundreds of people in and around Logansport.

Left out in the cold

The Pharos-Tribune extends this Thorn to residents who didn’t take proper care of their pets during the cold snap:

You wanted a pet, whether for companionship or protection, but you didn’t reckon on having to bring them inside or add insulation to an outside shelter. Yet, that would have been the responsible action in the hours leading up to Monday’s cold snap that brought wind chills of down to negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Those animals depend on you for their sustenance and survival. Please don’t let them down next time.
