Thorns & Roses Dec. 12

Roses

• To Logansport Memorial Hospital, which delivered cases of fresh fruit along with cash donations to five food pantries in Cass and Carroll counties last week. Donations went to The Salvation Army, Emmaus Mission Center and the Walton, Delphi and Flora food pantries. The hospital and its employees partnered with SYSCO Foods Inc. to organize the effort, and deliveries were made to each location Friday afternoon. The gifts were yet another sign that the hospital takes seriously its mission to protect the health and welfare of the community it serves.

• To Scott Berkshire and Brett Stines, two Federal Mogul employees who were honored last week with the Medal for Lifesaving, the highest honor presented by the American Red Cross. The two men were credited with saving the life of Linda Brady, a co-worker who suffered a heart attack while at work. Thanks to their efforts, Brady was on hand for last week’s ceremony to thank them again for their efforts.

• To the organizers of last week’s county basketball tournament. For the first time in its five-year history, the event featured all four county high schools. We would have loved to see some larger crowds, but those who turned out for the games certainly got their money’s worth. Thanks to the sponsoring Logansport Savings Bank and others involved in making the event a success.

Thorns

• To the gang bangers who apparently set fire to a Logansport man’s car this week. Police have recovered the gas can used in starting the blaze. Our hope is that they’ll be able to track down the culprits. Logansport doesn’t need this sort of activity.
