Homeowners can’t
afford more bills
Trash, trash and water and sewage. It seems like every day I pick up the newspaper we are going to have to pay more to live in Logansport. I am a 76-year-old woman trying to live on $657 a month. Yes, I get food stamps, Medicaid help to pay for medicine, but try and pay all your bills on that.
We try to keep up on house repairs, but I need a new roof on my house, and you add up all my bills and see what they all add up to. If people do not pay for their trash pick up, they could stand a chance of having their utilities shut off. It seems like we are living in a country like we are sending money to help them. Maybe some of the big moneymakers will help the poor.
Try and find another way to fix our problems. Also, I think I saw it that the homestead would be taken off taxes.

Greater good
for whom?
A new (or in reality, two decades old) agenda has been put forth in our comprehensive land use draft document that in essence states from time to time an individual, or small group of individuals, may be called upon to sacrifice in the name of “the greater good.”
This means that thousands of Carroll County rural residents are subject to negative effects of CAFO future operations if you are so fortunate to not be already affected!
A little fellow in Germany named Adolf wrote of this same doctrine of thought in a book titled “Mein Kampf” as I best recall, and millions of world citizens died in support of freedom and individual liberty.
Now under similar guise, our new Carroll County Agricultural Association (in the name of what is best for the county) would try to force sale of county taxpayers’ land to IPC with correlated lessening of life quality upon the most vulnerable elderly citizens of Carroll Manor.
I would submit that perhaps a more underlying agenda of this pressured desire would be bottom-line profit for a few large CAFO operations rather than their concern of Carroll County citizens!
I would ask if CAFO operations contribute so much to the county, why in approximately two decades (or since inception of economic development) has Carroll County, which once was a model and envy of much of Indiana, been reduced and destroyed to an economic shamble?
A few individuals (of whom may comprise agricultural association members) have profited greatly at the expense of all county taxpayers.
Their operations taxes do not begin to cover the damages wreaked upon county roads and infrastructure.
To any holder of elective office entrusted to represent the well and good of Carroll County and its citizens, I say the following:
Should you submit to the sale of the county taxpayers’ land under the pressure of special, self interest organizations or individuals, you have failed the best interests of Carroll County, the citizens you promised to represent and honor of yourself and the office you represent!
The “greater good” of any county or state is the protection of all its citizens and not catering to select individuals or organizations!
To those who may be considering Carroll Manor for themselves or their loved ones, there are many of us who are determined to save this wonderful home, so please come ahead and partake of its wonderful qualities and staff and join us in its support!

Head the right
choice for Senate
As we enter into this election season, we, the citizens, need to elect a new senator in District 18. Over the past 28 years, we have had great representation by two outstanding leaders, the late Sen. Bill Justice and Sen. Tom Weatherwax, who is not seeking re-election.
After looking over the candidates, I have decided a young man who will truly represent what the people of District 18 stand for is Randy Head. Randy is a person qualified and dedicated to a lifetime of public service and would make a great senator. Randy has pledged to be a leader who will listen to the citizens of the district.
He and his wife, Lisa, are leaders in the community. Randy is presently serving as president of the Cass County Community Foundation and in this position he really understands the needs and desires of this area. Randy also is a member of Farm Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and Main Street United Methodist Church. Randy also has been a deputy prosecutor for the past 14 years.
I would invite the voters of District 18 to seriously consider Randy Head for the important position to be our senator of District 18. Most of all, be aware of our great privilege and be sure to cast your ballot on Nov. 4.
