50 Years Ago

A backfiring engine in the Pennsylvania Railroad Roundhouse at the southeast edge of Logansport damaged seven diesel engines and caused damage to a switching engine and six other engines. The fire is believed to be the worst in city history, easily eclipsing the $400,000 National Bank fire two years ago.

Bethlehem Methodist Church near Twelve Mile is hosting a party for Logansport State Hospital patients.

Larry Wright, 22, is the new agriculture teacher in Bunker Hill.

Margaret Magee, 88, daughter of former Logansport Pharos Publisher Rufus Magee, who also was an ambassador to Sweden, has died. She never married and lived at 315 Ninth St.

The co-chairs of the United Fund Drive are John Schmidt and the Rev. Ray Echols.

The Gourmet Cafeteria at 520 E. Broadway is encouraging fair-goers to top off their day at the fair by having dinner at the restaurant.

Coroner G.D. Miller has decided against purchasing an automobile after taking an automobiling class in Chicago.
