A response to Bowyer’s column

Concerning Joe Bowyer’s News Column of June 12, “What will be said of Joe upon his passing, etc,” I would say, “Thank you Joe for being the kind of guy who has shared your innermost thoughts and feelings with your public throughout these years in your News Columns. Never one to hesitate speaking out on your views and beliefs about life in general, as well as debating and discussing current issues taking place. (Sometimes stated a bit bluntly, but you got our attention!)”

You spoke so often about your love for, and your life with your beloved Janie that we have come to admire her and fall in love with her ourselves.

I don’t think you need to worry what people say negatively upon your passing, Joe, much good will be recollected and spoken in your behalf.

Now, “thems my sentiments” and I’m glad I had the opportunity to tell you while you’re still among the living!

Thanks for supporting Pioneer Days 2009

Wow! What a weekend!! Pioneer Days 2009 enjoyed some of the best weather ever for this weekend!

The Royal Center Lions are so appreciative of the support of the community and surrounding areas for the Lions’ annual project. The meals were well attended with a sell-out crowd both nights. (Thanks to those of you who have called offering to buy extra chicken, but there is none left this year.) The auction was a fantastic success with wonderful donations from area businesses and individuals which led to vigorous bidding from the many people in attendance.

Many folks, both in the park and under the tent (thanks Community State Bank for your help with that) enjoyed the music that was provided by three talented groups. Many moms and dads especially enjoyed the Pioneer High School (present and alum) Jazz Band. Others got to see and participate in two of the best antique and garden tractor pulls.

The ever-favorite parade featured many floats, horse units, the Pioneer High School band, tractors, antique cars, fire trucks and other motorized vehicles carrying politicians, local school award winners and the parade marshals, Harry and Ethel Robinson, who followed the color guard.

The Lions give a special salute to Elaine Funk and family and Angie Henry who, although not Lion members, gave of their time and talents to organize the 41st Pioneer Days Parade. Did you see Fayetta Pearson with her cardinal float pulled by a scooter? Or the group of tailwaggers with the Millers and their BIG dogs?) The kids probably loved the groups that were throwing candy the best!
