Gordon Daniel Wolf

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Gordon Daniel Wolf, 70, Palm Springs, Calif., died suddenly Feb. 21, 2013, off the coast of New Zealand.

Born Feb. 17, 1943, in Logansport, Ind., to Evelyn Marie (nee Gordon) and Carl Wolf. He graduated from Hanover College in 1965 as a member of Phi Delta Theta, attended the Wharton School, and launched his consulting career with Towers Perrin. An internationally recognized expert in executive compensation, particularly in the entertainment industry, he worked out of the Philadelphia and New York offices until his retirement in 1996. He maintained residences in New York City and Fire Island Pines until relocating to Palm Springs in 1999.

His love of travel continued until the very end, both around the globe and to his homes in Anguilla, West Indies, and Green Valley Lake, Calif.

An avid singer and supporter of the arts, Gordon launched his singing career with a performance at Carnegie Hall with the Hanover College Choir. He was a longtime member of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church and its Chancel Choir. He sang with the Palm Springs Caballeros Gay Men’s Chorus for ten years and served as President of the Board of Directors, and most recently, was a singer and board member with the California Desert Chorale.

Gordon lived his life with great passion and determination. He was a loving father, wonderful partner, inspiring mentor, and caring friend to all whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his devoted partner, Steven Caldwell, Palm Springs, his former wife, Jean (nee Kinley) Stratton, his loving daughters and their families, Jennifer Timmins and her husband, Scott, Newton, Mass., Melissa Wolf Riley and her husband, Chip, Scottsville, Va., and his beloved granddaughter, Ellison, also of Newton.

Friends are invited to a celebration of his life at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Bougainvillea Room at Spencer’s Restaurant, Palm Springs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the California Desert Chorale or to the National Marfan Foundation.
