Marilyn Elizabeth Sailors

Marilyn Elizabeth Sailors, 85, Walton, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, in Bradenton, Fla.

Born July 30, 1927 in Walton, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Thelma (Barnett) Bishop. She was married Feb. 6, 1948, in the Ninth Street Christian Church Parsonage in Logansport, to John T. “J.T.” Sailors, who preceded her in death May 29, 2012.

A 1946 graduate of Walton High School, Marilyn and her husband founded American Enterprises in Walton where she worked as the business office manager.

Marilyn was a member of Walton Christian Church. She had a beautiful voice and sang at many weddings and church services. “The Lord’s Prayer” was her signature song and she could sing it like an angel. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Born and raised in the same house, she lived there her entire life except for the first six months following her marriage. She was an excellent cook who was well-known for her delicious pies. Marilyn was also gifted when it came to sewing and decorating. She was a patient teacher who passed on many of her skills to her children.

Marilyn’s shining eyes and warm smile revealed a wonderful sense of humor and was pure joy to be around.

Surviving are two daughters Julia Grogg and her husband Larry, of Decatur, Jacquelyn Wenger and her husband Greg, Russiaville, and Michael Sailors and his wife Carla of Walton; five sisters-in-law, Betty Bishop of Santa Cruz, Cali., Marjorie Sailors, Logansport, Mary Ann Downhour and Marlene Remley and her husband Charles, all of Walton, and Lorena Kay Harvey of Noblesville; eight grandchildren, Michael (Jill) Grogg, Ryan (Jane) Grogg, Nathan Grogg, Devin (Justine) Sailors, Kirsten Sailors, Erica (fiance Paul Yerkes) Wenger and Olivia Wenger, four great-grandchildren, David Grogg, Andrea Grogg, Eliana Grogg and Karina Grogg.

She was preceded in death by one son, John Timothy Sailors; and two brothers, William “Bill” Bishop and John Robert “Bob” Bishop.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, with Pastor Bill Collins officiating.

Interment will follow in the Walton IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewis Cass Marching King Band program, of which she was a devoted fan.
