Robert Eugene Ironmonger, 84, Kokomo, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Hospital, Kokomo.
He was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Kokomo, to Floyd E. and Mildred L. (Horner) Ironmonger. On April 4, 1974, he married Helen Ironmonger, who preceded him in death June 2, 2001.
He worked at Kokomo Gas & Fuel for 43 years before his retirement. He and Helen built their dream home together. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed fishing and was a jack of all trades. He was known affectionately as the “Kokomo Grouch.”
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Vogt of Kokomo; one son, Steven (Cindy) Ironmonger of Georgia; two stepdaughters, Ruth (Mike) Dunn of Kokomo and Suzanne Taylor of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Robert J. (Lisa) Ironmonger, Vicky (Tim) Watson, Andrew (Natilee) Jones, Andrea (Scott) Haggitt, Scott (fiancée, Kim) Vogt, Paris Ironmonger and Wendy Ruse; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, David Ironmonger and Larry (Ellen) Ironmonger; and sisters, Sharon Nelson, Carolyn Herd, Darlene Branscum and Nancy Martin.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; one son, Jeffrey Ironmonger; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, Kokomo. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
