Shirley Y. Townsend


YOUNG AMERICA — Shirley Y. Townsend, 73, Young America, died at 2:29 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Howard Regional Health System in Kokomo.

Born Aug. 5, 1939, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of Perry Hobart Neal and Opal Elizabeth Bertram Neal.

Shirley retired from Delco in 1999, after 31 years service (Fab 3). She was a member of UAW 292. 

She loved reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are children, Greg Bell, Galveston, Sheena and Mike Vernon, Young America, Scott Bell, Kokomo, and Lisa and Doug Metcalf, Galveston; grandchildren, Brianne, Josh and Kabrina, Shane, Blaire, John, Mat and Courtney; great-grandchildren, Jalen, Gavin, Keegan, Levi, Reneelea and Draven; brother, Gene and wife, Joyce Neal, Kokomo; and sister-in-law, Connie Neal, Kokomo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Kyla Bell; brother, Dave Neal; sister, Charlene Neal; and brothers, Jimmy Neal, Ronnie Neal and Donnie Neal. 

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Brad Swain officiating. Burial will be in Bell Mound Cemetery. 

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
