Jane Kasch


LOGANSPORT — Mary “Jane” Kasch, 92, life-long resident of Logansport’s north side neighborhood, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, Veterans Day.

Jane was born Dec. 19, 1919, to Eva Johnson Kasch and Louis Kasch, former city councilman and county commissioner. She was baptized and confirmed as a member of St. James Lutheran Church and graduated from Logansport High School in 1938. For many years, she was involved in planning reunions and activities for the class of ’38.

Retired from the accounting department of Rockwell International after 33 years of service, she continued to work at the Pharos-Tribune and also offered her services to care for and transport the elderly.

Jane was named “Cass County’s Older Woman of the Year” for 1992 based upon her volunteer work and active participation in the community. Honored as a 70-year member, Jane was a past president and officer of The American Legion Auxiliary; Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Laureate Psi Chapter; and St. James Lutheran Church Altar Guild.

In addition, she proudly served as committeeman of the 1st Precinct and worked election boards as a member of the Cass County Republican Women’s Club.

She belonged to the Logansport Rose Society, the Mental Health Association, the Cass County Historical Society and the St. James Mary-Martha Guild. For many years, Jane sang in the adult choir, led the children’s choir and played piano and organ for St. James. As a member of the Loganettes, she also participated in barbershop quartet competitions.

Jane cared for five generations of her family and was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara (Kasch) Eisert and Ruth (Kasch) Walls; and one niece, Janet Walls, formerly of Indianapolis.

She is survived by one nephew, John (Linda) Walls, of Fort Wayne; two nieces, Cindy Eisert (Keith) Smith and Lynn Eisert (Mike) Jankowske, all of Valparaiso; three great-nieces, Jennifer Jankowske Denham, Laura Jankowske and Katie Jankowske; and one great-nephew, Zachary Smith.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kroeger Funeral Home, with Pastor K.C. Dehning and the Rev. Marvin Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, as well as one hour prior to the funeral Saturday. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 430 Ninth St., Logansport IN 46947.
