Janet Lou Walls, 66, of Indianapolis, succumbed to cancer at St. Vincent Hospital Hospice, Indianapolis, on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012.
Born in Logansport, Indiana, on August 27, 1946, she was the daughter of John F. Walls and Ruth E. Kasch Walls. She graduated from Logansport High School in 1964 and Valparaiso University in 1970.
Herself an author of poetry and short stories for children and adults, Janet spent her career working with books and media at Logansport Public Library, in the Indianapolis Public Library system, and at Indianapolis’s Wishard Hospital. She retired from Wishard in 2001. In retirement, she worked part-time for Indianapolis Public Schools.
While attending North United Methodist Church, Janet performed for Taize services, formerly serving as a member of the music department’s adult bell choir and its tape ministry. Additionally, through the years she enjoyed playing various percussion instruments for the Athenaeum Pops Orchestra and, later, for the Scottish Rite Orchestra.
Preceded in death by her parents, Janet is survived by brother John Walls and his wife, Linda, of Fort Wayne; aunt Mary Jane Kasch of Logansport; stepmother Marjorie Walls of Fort Wayne; stepbrother Steve Pettyjohn, wife Lynn, and their family, of Westlake, Ohio; Rick Pettyjohn, wife Karen, and their family, of Convoy, Ohio; cousins Lynn Jankowske, Cindy Smith, and their families, of Valparaiso; and a large circle of steadfast friends in the Indianapolis area.
A funeral service will be held at Kroeger Funeral Home, 711 E. Market St., Logansport, at 2 p.m. Saturday with calling two hours prior. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at North United Methodist Church, 3808 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, at a later date.
