Pharos-Tribune

---- — Mary Cecelia (Loner) Surface, 95, Logansport, was called home to be with our God on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, while residing at St. Anthony’s Health Care, Lafayette. She was born on Feb. 21, 1918, in Logansport to William P. and Mary K. (Schmaltz) Loner.

In 1943 Mary was married to Walter T. Surface who is deceased.

Mary’s greatest loves were her children: Mary Martin of South Carolina, Michael of British Columbia, Canada, Anthony (Donneta) of Logansport, Rosella of Lafayette, Paul of Florida, Christine Collins of Galveston and Jacinta (Marty) Irwin of Florida.

Mary lost her “sweet little boy” Daniel in 1954 who was almost 3 years of age. To carry Mary through this tragic loss was her love for God, her devotion to her Catholic faith and her seven living children.

Mary’s parents had eight children and Mary was the last remaining child of this union.

Deceased brothers were Joseph, John, Lawrence, Herman, Paul and Fr. George, and her sister, Catherine.

Mary has two sisters-in-law still residing in Logansport, Angele and Patty Loner. She has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who love her very much and Mary had a special bond with her autistic grandson, Donald.

Mary was a very hard worker all of her life and did volunteer work after retiring. She enjoyed making rosaries in honor of Our Blessed Mother to whom she had a great devotion.

A funeral Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Church, with the rosary being said before Mass. Father Michael McKinney will officiate. Burial will be at Saint Vincent Cemetery, Logansport.

Mary requested that instead of flowers, a memorial contribution be made for the poor, especially the poor in Haiti.

Kroeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
