Joe A. Steele

Joe A. Steele, 81, Logansport, passed away at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 24, 1932, in Medaryville, he was the son of the late Joseph Thomas and Florence Emily Holt Steele.

His first marriage was in 1953 to Shirley Steele, who survives. They later divorced. His second marriage was to Betty Halsma. Their marriage ended in divorce and Betty preceded him in death. He later married Joann Croy who preceded him in death. On Sept. 10, 1983, in Logansport, he was married to Doris M. Smith Carrier Steele, who survives.

Joe was employed with Angle Trucking as a truck driver since 1992. He had previously worked as a laundry truck driver at Logansport State Hospital for 14 years.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Joe served his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the 40 et 8, Voiture 729- elite honor group, Past Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790, and the American Legion Post 60 where he had previously served as hospital chairman. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie 323.

Also surviving are two daughters, Nyla J. Buck and her husband Danny, of Ill., and Christina L. Bean and her husband Ray, of Logansport; one son, Joe A. Steele II and his companion Lindsey Annis, of Logansport; three stepsons, Brad Carrier and his wife Michelle, Bill Carrier and his wife Angelica and Nick Palmerone, all of Logansport; 12 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Ray Eddie Bean; one great-granddaughter, Trinity Bean; three brothers, Buck, Don and Mike Steele; and one sister, Shirley.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Kyle Gennicks officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel.
