Walter F. Meyer, 93, Logansport, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born Jan. 9, 1920, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Carl and Flora Newmann Meyer. On Feb. 10, 1952, in Logansport, he married Margaret E. Watts, who preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2006.
Walter retired from the Logansport Post Office as postmaster in 1981 after 33 years of service.
He was a 1937 graduate of Logansport High School. Walter was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving from December 1941 to September 1945 with the 32nd Red Arrow Division. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Logansport, where he served as a past treasurer.
Surviving Walter are one daughter, Mary (Tim) Donovan of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Stephen (Susan) Meyer of Mentor, Ohio and John (Carla) Meyer of Naples, Fla.; four grandsons, Patrick (Kimberly) Meyer of Berea, Ohio, Brian Meyer of Tucson, Ariz., Shelby Meyer of Naples, Fla. and Jeffery Meyer of Spain; five granddaughters, Lauren Meyer of California, Maddie Meyer of Naples, Fla., Pamela Donovan, Jennifer Donovan and Rebecca Donovan, all of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandson, Owen Meyer and great-granddaughter, Paige Meyer, both of Berea, Ohio; and sister, Mary Ann Johnson of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anne Meyer; three brothers, Carl, Paul and James Meyer; and one sister, Ruth Meyer.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church with Pastor K.C. Dehning officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday.
