Forest G. (McWherter) Conn, 97, Winamac, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at St. Vincent Medical Center, Indianapolis.
Born Sept, 5, 1915, in Winamac, the daughter of the late Henry Edgar Vanaman and Emma Jeanetta Cramer Vanaman. Forest married Harold L. McWherter Sept. 19, 1935, in Winamac. Harold died Sept. 16, 1944. She married Harry R. Conn June 29, 1947, in Winamac. Harry died Jan. 8, 2002.
Forest was a member of the First Christian Church, Winamac. She was a Past Matron of OES 96, Winamac.
She was a former laborer at the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant, a telephone operator and clerk for the United Telephone Co. and a bookkeeper at the ASCS office, Winamac. Forest last worked as a secretary and abstract preparer at the Gast Law office, Winamac.
She loved to work in her flower garden and horseback riding. Forest also loved to crochet afghans and to sew quilts. She read Westerns and history novels on her Kindle.
Survivors include her son, Richard L. Conn, Winamac, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Edgar Vanaman; mother, Emma Jeanetta Cramer Vanaman; husband, Harold L. McWherter; husband, Harry R. Conn; and three brothers, Claude Vanaman, Virgil Vanaman and Robert Vanaman.
Services will be at 10 a.m. (EDT) Friday at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, with Rev. Glen Meyers and Pastor Rick Abbott officiating. Burial will take place at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. (EDT) Thursday at Frain Mortuary. OES services will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Frain Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
