Paul Edward Minks


LOGANSPORT — Paul Edward Minks, 89, Logansport, passed away peacefully at 11:55 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Hospital East, Lafayette.

Born April 9, 1924, in Bloomfield, he was the son of the late Guy and Edith Constable Minks.

Paul graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1942 where he met his future bride, Martha Jean Holtsclaw Minks, who survives. The sweethearts were married in Bloomfield Oct. 31, 1943, while he was on furlough.

Paul went into the U.S. Army and served his country proudly as a radio operator in Europe during Wold War II. He attended Washington & Lee University in Virginia.

After he retired from Sears and Roebuck, his second career began when he planted over 300 apple trees and opened Minks Orchard on N. Third Street.

Paul was a member of First Nazarene Church in Logansport. He enjoyed traveling the entire United States. Paul loved planning trips for himself and the whole family. He especially enjoyed telling stories, gardening, playing jokes and singing. Paul was also an avid reader. His warm personality and fun-loving nature endeared him to many friends. Paul enjoyed and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A member of the greatest generation, Paul was passionate about God, country and family.

A devoted husband to Martha Jean for nearly 70 years, also surviving are his five children who he loved very much, Dennis Minks (Sue) of Frankfort, Ky., Glenn Minks (Kathy) of Logansport, Wanda Byers (Dan) of Kokomo, Donna Henry (Chuck) of Galveston and Eric Minks (Tammy) of Logansport; brother, Mervin Minks of Logansport; sister, Martha Becker of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister-in-law, Marjorie Minks of Logansport; 14 grandchildren, Kim Minks Switzer, Andrew (Kelly) Minks, Aaron Minks, Kristen (Jwain) White, Greg (Billie) Byers, Samantha Minks, Guy Minks, Tia Lewellen, Matthew (Jenny) Lewellen, Nathaniel (Penny) Lewellen, Whitney Smith, Charles (Claudia) Henry, Michelle (Don) Surine and Joel Henry; 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Marion Minks, by one week.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Dr. Horace Smith officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from  4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
