Alec Dean Smith, 71, Logansport, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, in his residence.

Born Dec. 13, 1941, in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Samuel B. and Eunas (Parman) Smith.

Dean retired from General Motors but his real passion was farming. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, member of the American Legion Post 60 and V.F.W. Post 3790.

Surviving are three daughters, Melanie (Jeff) See, Galveston; Maria Kathy (Dale) DeWitt, Frankfort; Melinda (Scott) Rogers, Royal Center; two sons, Samuel (Paula) Smith, Logansport; Dean (Kathy) Steindl, Japan; three sisters, Velma Harlan, Converse; Shirley Lucas, Akron; Judy Spencer, Adamsboro; one brother, Jerry (Willa) Smith, Lucerne; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Melissa McCall; one granddaughter; four brothers, Everett, Bill, Samuel and Ronnie; and one sister, Freida.

A private graveside service will be held Friday at Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Logansport. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park with military graveside rites.
